Michael Hillier

Director, Social Planet

Michael has 25 years of community development experience in aged care and disability services.

He is a carer to his older brother, Robert, who has an Acquired Brain Injury as a result of a car accident. This experience has helped to shape the services and features Social Planet offers.

Michael was a Senior Manager at the Brotherhood of St. Laurence, working in the Department of Retirement, Ageing and Disability. He developed a range of health promotion and wellbeing services, such as the Social Inclusion Program, Good Food Matters and helped to establish the community transport service, Peninsula Transport Assist.

Michael has also worked for the Department of Rural Health at the University of Tasmania, and the Carers Association of Tasmania in community development positions.

He has significant hands-on experience with the National Disability Insurance Scheme, worked as a Support Coordinator at CoAbility and Focus Life as Team Leader for their Day Support Services.

Michael holds a Bachelor of Arts (Sociology and Administration) Degree and Graduate Diploma in Social Research (Applied Sociology) from the University of Tasmania.
