Kate Washington was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly as the member for Port Stephens for the Australian Labor Party at the 2015 New South Wales state election.

Kate is a passionate advocate for children, young people, and families. She has spent the last nine years representing her community of Port Stephens in Parliament, while also holding various Shadow Ministerial responsibilities.

Before Parliament, Kate was a partner in a law firm in Newcastle specialising in health law, representing people with disability and their families. She turned to politics to make the positive changes needed to build stronger communities.

As Minister for Families and Communities, Kate is committed to improving outcomes for vulnerable families right across NSW.
